Can I measure my bra size at home with a tape?

Yes, with a soft tape, a non-padded bra and two numbers. Breast Cancer Now's guide to a well-fitting bra (edition 4, February 2025) says to measure snugly right beneath your breasts in inches and add 4, or 5 if that number is odd, then measure loosely across the fullest part of your breasts and subtract the band number to find your cup. The charity adds that the result is a starting point, since sizes vary by style and brand. Is 34C or 36C bigger on a bra size chart?

The 36C is bigger, in the band and in the cup. Wikipedia's bra size entry explains that cup volume is relative to the band, so 30D, 32C, 34B and 36A all share the same cup volume, and that in US and UK sizing each cup letter adds one inch between the bust and band measurements. Read any bra size chart with that rule and the letters start making sense: the same band with a later letter means more room, and the same letter on a bigger band means a bigger cup too. What do European bra sizes like 85DE mean?

The number is the band in centimeters and the letters are the cup. Wikipedia's bra size entry explains that EU bands come from the underbust measurement rounded to the nearest 5 cm, which gives sizes such as 70, 75, 80 and 85, and that each EU cup step is 2 cm, against one inch in US and UK sizing. The same entry notes that labels are not standardized internationally, so the same letter can fit differently from one label to the next. How big is a B cup size?

About two inches of difference between your bust and your band. Wikipedia's bra size entry gives that 2-inch gap for a B in US and UK sizing, and a gap of roughly 14 to 16 cm in the EU system, and it points out that the over-bust measurement is taken around the fullest part of the breasts. So the B cup size describes a difference, not a fixed amount, and it grows with the band. What should a support bra for large breasts have?

Full cups, firm wires, wider straps and a band that sits level. Breast Cancer Now's fit page (reviewed February 2025) adds that the cups should hold your whole breast without bulging, underwires should lie flat along the natural crease, and the cup should fit your larger breast, since most people have one bigger than the other. Is it okay to wear a lace bralette top out of the house?

What is a plunge bra used for?
