Floral jeans are jeans with a flower pattern on the denim, either printed on or embroidered in. These are printed. White daisies with yellow centres cover both legs, front and back, on a pale blue washed denim, with small blue letters scattered between the flowers. Mid rise, zip fly, loose through the hip and a wide straight leg that runs to the floor.

The print

The daisies are printed into the denim, not stitched on top, so the fabric is one flat weight all over and there is nothing to catch or fray. The wash is a light blue, faded to near white in places, which is what lets the flowers read as white rather than cream. The print continues over the back pockets and the waistband.

Light wash baggy wide leg

Loose from the hip down with no taper: the leg is the same width at the knee as at the hem. The rise sits at the natural waist, not above it. No stretch in the fabric, so the shape holds and the waist does not give. Worn in the photographs with a black crop top and flat sandals, which is the y2k version; a plain white tee and trainers does the same job in daylight.

Who they suit

A wide straight leg on a printed jean adds width. It works best when the top half is plain and fitted, so the print has somewhere to stop.

Fit and measurements

Loose through the hip and thigh, straight to the hem, no stretch. Measured flat in centimetres.

Match your waist and hip to the table rather than your usual letter size. The waist runs from 64 cm on a size S to 84 cm on a 3XL, so most people land one size up from what they usually take. If you are between sizes, go up: there is no stretch.

Cold wash inside out, hang dry. Printed denim keeps its colour longest away from heat.
