Frequently Asked Questions

What makes jeans Y2K?
The cut and the wash. Y2K jeans are the early 2000s silhouette: a loose, wide or baggy leg that pools over the shoe, usually with a visible detail such as straps, a contrast wash or rips, worn with something cropped. This pair has all three: a wide baggy leg, bleached two tone panels and button straps across the thigh. A plain slim jean is not Y2K whatever the label says.
Do Y2K baggy jeans run true to size?
Choose your usual jeans size. These Y2K jeans are non-stretch denim in sizes S to 2XL, cut baggy through the hip and thigh, so the room is in the pattern rather than the fabric. If you fall between two sizes take the larger one; the waist will not give. We do not yet publish waist and inseam in centimetres for this pair, so if your usual size is borderline, message us before ordering.
Were baggy jeans in style in the 2000s?
Yes, and they are the shape that came back. The late 90s and early 2000s were the baggy years: wide legs, low and mid rises, cargo straps, contrast washes. The version that reads as now is this one, a high waist with a wide baggy leg, rather than the low rise of the time. Hollister and Target both lead their Y2K ranges with a baggy wide leg for that reason.
Is this an acid wash or a bleached wash?
Bleached, in two tones. Acid wash in the 80s sense is an all-over marbled bleach. These jeans have a dark blue base with the front panels bleached to sand and the fade running into the blue at the edges, which is the 2000s contrast version and what most people now mean by acid wash. Wash cold and inside out to keep the contrast.
What do you wear with wide leg acid wash jeans?
Something cropped on top and something chunky on the feet. A fitted crop top, a baby tee or a cropped knit keeps the high waist visible, and platform trainers or chunky boots stand up to the width of the leg; a thin shoe disappears under it. The crop tops in our range are cut to finish where these jeans start.
How do you wash two tone jeans without losing the contrast?
Cold water, inside out, gentle cycle, hang to dry. Heat is what fades a bleached panel into the blue around it, so skip the tumble dryer and do not wash them with bleach or optical brighteners. Wash with dark colours the first few times, because the dark blue base can transfer onto pale fabrics until it settles.
